I will probably get blasted for this opinion, but I think the best video medium for delivering older home movies is VHS. Of course, I would not "archive" my movies on VHS, but the standard consumer just wants to watch their old movies, they don't expect perfection. There are many, many people who have old films they want transferred, but they don't have a DVD player. Almost everyone, however, has a VCR. Also, there are no compatibility problems with VHS. If you make a VHS tape, everyone can watch it without question. If you burn a DVD, believe it or not, it will simply not work in many DVD players (I know this from experience). If I was transferring films for filmmakers, I would probably deliver on MiniDV, Digital8, or DVD.
Also, in regards to the quality of the condenser lens: before using the condenser lens that came with my WorkPrinter, I also used an extremely high quality Buhl biplexer lens to transfer footage. I could not really tell a difference between these two lenses. Also, I have used extension tubes to zoom all the way in on the film (without any intervening lens at all!) and surprisingly could not see any improvement there either. In addition, having the camera lens that close to the tiny film frame made it so hard to center on the image that I quickly set the condenser lens back in place.

I agree that for "regular" people VHS will dominate. I have 2 clients right now that I am going to transfer their 8mm films for. Both want a final on VHS. I tried to explain that for very little additional money I would make a minidv or digital 8 copy as well so that they would have a higher quality master in case something happens to the VHS copy(ies). The reponse from both was "can't I just get a few VHS copies?". I hope they don't throw the film away after I'm done.
DVD format issues would just confuse more so I'm not even going that route yet.

I've done more than a few transfers of home movies for people to make a few bucks with the CineMate and I've noticed the same thing--most people want VHS. The one guy who was interested in having his footage transferred to DVD quickly lost interest when I explained that it would cost more money and that the DVD might not be compatible with his DVD player.
Until they come up with one standard for all DVD recorders, we're going to have this problem.

Exactly my point, Jerome. Thank you for seeing clearly what Cal obviously could not at the time. I would never call you "deaf and dumb" out of thin air just to be mean spirited. I was only repeating what YOU called yourself to contrast the fact that, while you may not be able to hear or speak, you are not illiterate nor mentally handicapped and, as such, are certainly responsible for what you write on this forum.
My "deaf and dumb" quote was presented here, out of context, for reasons that only Cal can justify. He and I have communicated privately since then and I believe I have a better understanding regarding his sensitivities on this subject and I would like to think he understands me a bit better, as well. That's all I will say about this. Again, if in trying to make a point I offended you in any way, please accept my apologies.

If I get your meaning, you are suggesting that maybe my email is not working. Fair enough. But you need to remember that you previously wrote this:
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><table border="0" width="90%" bgcolor="#333333" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="100%"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" bgcolor="#FF9900"><tr><td width="100%" bgcolor="#DDDDDD"><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Originally posted by Jerome Cain:
Matt! I sent you an email and do not get any respond since two weeks guess your disorder to reply or,... Guess, Juk, from sweden is right about you?</font></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>
Also, you had previously posted this, regarding the transfer units I offer:
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><table border="0" width="90%" bgcolor="#333333" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="100%"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" bgcolor="#FF9900"><tr><td width="100%" bgcolor="#DDDDDD"><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Originally posted by Jerome Cain:
3ccd may be an answer which can do 24p for film to transfer to digital format. I would go for
mutliplexer lens than homemade telecine.</font></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>
Both comments seemed to smack of impatience and a certain amount of unwarranted disdain for Matt or my product. Therefore, when I read your comment:
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><table border="0" width="90%" bgcolor="#333333" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="100%"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" bgcolor="#FF9900"><tr><td width="100%" bgcolor="#DDDDDD"><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Originally posted by Jerome Cain:
I sent an email to Movie stuff to ask for the compare quality of Multiplexer and Universal len workprinter but no answer.</font></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>
It frankly seemed like more of the same impatience and presumptive attitude with no apparent thought that something could simply be wrong with the email message getting through. This seem even more likely considering that Matt responded to you (Upon review, Matt DID get your email. My mistake) and you never got HIS email. So the system is imperfect. Why not simply send a second email before slamming someone on this board?
So, again, I apologize for doing anything that might have offended you but sometimes your posts do come across as a bit abrasive, impatient and incredulous for no reason. But, for the record, I agree with Scot. Your posts are always entertaining (and I mean that in an admiring way) even if a bit impatient.
Sincerely,
Roger Evans

Other time i write good english and other time I write bad english because it is damn america's language! However, i try to make this short and sweet. Ouch, feeling like moviestuff's heavy foot on my foot about email issue. i emailed twice and waited for two weeks. Is it impatient? i can accept your opinion about abrasive or entertainment which i may be blunt. I am impressed with your document recorder and an expert defense lawyer however I am going to drop my sandal and make other post. "VOTE: Multiplexer or Movie Stuff's Universal Condenser lens" Jerome (harley davidson may be a homemade?)
